According to Maine Revenue Services (MRS), the W-4ME form has a new check box for tribal members that live and work on tribal lands. Those folks can check that box to claim a withholding exemption on wages, salaries, or other compensation for work performed on tribal land in Maine. So taxes do not need to be collected on those wages if the check box is marked. Keep in mind that this exemption does not apply to compensation for work performed in Maine but not on tribal land.
This change does not impact federal taxes.
