Some low income people are eligible for Mainecare. Most other people with low incomes can get help paying for health insurance. The IRS gives instant tax credits to help with the cost.
There are many places to get help finding health insurance:
- You can call Maine's Consumers for Affordable Health Care at: 1-800-965-7476
- You could find a “Health Care Navigators.” A Health Care Navigator helps you find health insurance options. Go here and search by town or zip code.
- You can sign up for coverage at healthcare.gov.
Most people need to apply or re-apply for insurance between November 1st - December 15th each year. But some people can apply for coverage any time of the year. This includes people with "major life changes" and people who qualify for MaineCare. Find out if you can apply outside of the enrollment period.
