APPLE PICKER RECEIVES WORKERS’ COMPENSATION BENEFITS
In 2003, a worker working at an orchard in Maine fell from a ladder while he was picking apples. He suffered a serious injury. The worker has never been able to go back to work. He contacted our office in Maine and we helped him file a claim for workers’ compensation benefits. For the next 6 years, he received $270 a week from the insurance company. The insurance company also paid his medical bills. After that, we worked out a settlement with the insurance company and the worker received more than $125,000.
LEGAL SERVICES HELPS WHEN CONTRACT ENDED EARLY
In 2008, a crew of workers in Maine finished their contract early. However, the boss did not tell anyone that the workers were finished. The workers were stuck in the United States with no work. The workers were told that they could not go home for almost two weeks after they finished the contract. The local legal services office got involved and we were able to arrange it so that the workers went home a few days sooner than they had been told.
