Maine DHHS is offering this online tool My Maine Connection as another way to apply for benefits. You may still apply in person, if you prefer, or over the phone (in programs that allow phone applications). But this is now the most streamlined way to apply.
You can apply online for:
- TANF
- Food Supplements
- MaineCare, and
- Child Care
After submitting your application, a DHHS caseworker will call you to to review your eligibility. You may need to submit more verifying information at that time.
"Prescreen"
The site also includes a screening tool for the 4 programs listed above, plus WIC, and the Earned Income Tax Credit. You can use this "pre-screener" to find out if you may qualify for benefits. Any information you enter on the screening tool is anonymous; DHHS does not save or track it.
"Recertify"
Some people can use this online tool to do their benefits recertification, as well. You will get a notice in the mail form DHHS if when this option is available to you.
Tips:
- Save proof of your application. If you apply, you will get a "tracking number." This is your proof that you applied. Follow the "application summary" link and save or print the .pdf page that includes your tracking number. If you run into problems later on, you will need this information.
- Problems? If you run into problems with this new system - or delays in processing your online application - contact DHHS at:
- 1-855-797-4357 (HELP) (Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm), or
- [email protected]
- If DHHS does not resolve your problem, contact Maine Equal Justice Partners.
