Children's Health Insurance

One of the most critical resources for children caught in the middle of a high-conflict divorce is access to medical coverage, particularly mental health coverage. In Maine, most low-income children are eligible for Medicaid (now called Maine Care). This program entitles children to a wide variety of medical services including comprehensive mental health services. Although this program is designed to cover most Maine children without private insurance, it is vastly underutilized. As the GAL, you may be uniquely suited to inquire into the child's medical coverage and when appropriate, make the referral for services.
