Community Meetings About The New Border-Crossing Rules

On June 10, 2009 there will be a meeting about the new border-crossing rules. Staff people from Pine Tree Legal Assistance will explain the new rules. We will explain the new passport requirement, documents which may be used instead of passports and the relationship between the Jay Treaty and the new rules. We will also answer any questions that people may have and time will be allowed for a general discussion of any problems that might be occurring at the border. The meeting will take place at the Aroostook Band of MicMac’s facility at Sprucehaven, 214 Doyle Road in Caribou. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.

There will also be another meeting about the new border-crossing rules hosted by the Houlton Band of Maliseets. We are hopeful that this meeting will take place a little later in June. The time and place of this meeting will be announced in the near future.
