Part D: For Medicare Providers

Legal Services for the Elderly has a special Unit to help Maine residents with Medicare Part D. The Medicare Part D Appeals Unit works closely with doctors and other prescribers, pharmacists, residential providers and others to help their patients obtain their prescription medications at the correct co-pays through Medicare Part D. There is no charge for this help.

The Unit helps providers by giving them information about Medicare Part D, including Part D Formularies, alternative medications on the Formularies, criteria for getting drugs approved, correct co-pays, Part B v. Part D issues, rules on off-label use, special protections for long-term care residents and for people taking anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, anti-convulsants and several other crucial medications, as well as many other issues.

The Unit also provides prescribers with the Part D forms needed to get drug coverage for their patients, follows-up if Part D Plans fail to issue decisions within their deadlines, and will Appeal denials of coverage.

If you have questions about Medicare Part D, or need help for your patient or someone else, call the Medicare Part D Unit, at 1-877-774-7772, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to Noon, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
