We are currently seeking applicants for three staff positions:

Fulltime Paralegal in Augusta
Part-time Staff Attorney in Northern Maine


Fulltime Paralegal Position in Augusta

LSE is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to Maine’s seniors.

LSE is adding a new paralegal position to its Helpline staff. LSE’s Helpline provides free legal services via telephone on a statewide basis. The new paralegal will 1) upon request by a Helpline Attorney, refer calls to referral attorneys; 2) under the supervision of a Helpline Attorney, assist with responding to calls in the consumer debt and other areas; and 3) provide coverage for the Helpline Intake Paralegal when he or she is absent from work. The Helpline Intake Paralegal screens clients for eligibility and identifies the nature of the caller’s problem.

Applicants should have formal paralegal training or at least three years experience working as a paralegal. Applicants without paralegal training or experience but with applicable experience working in the consumer debt area will also be considered. The successful candidate must have outstanding organizational skills, a proven ability to provide exceptional client service, and extensive experience working with computers.

Part-time Staff Attorney Position in Northern Maine

LSE is a statewide non-profit organization that provides free legal services for Maine’s seniors. LSE is looking for a part-time staff attorney (20-30 hours per week) to provide services in northern Maine, including Aroostook County. This attorney may work from an LSE office located in Bangor or Presque Isle, or from a home office located in the area. Extensive travel is required and all mileage costs will be reimbursed. The specific days/hours of work are flexible.

Applicants must be licensed to practice in Maine. Five or more years of experience in representing individuals in administrative proceedings or civil litigation is preferred. Applicants who wish to work from their home must be able to provide a dedicated home office space for use when providing LSE services. LSE will provide needed office equipment, internet and Lexis access and phone service.
