What Are The Cases We Take?

Who Are Our Clients?

"KIDS"

For our purposes, KIDS are defined as children and adolescents under 18 years old, or 18 years old or older who are still in a school program of some kind but have not graduated high school or earned a GED.

"ADULTS"

Parents, legal guardians and/or "next friends" represent what is in a child's (including teenager's) best interest.

"WHO WE REPRESENT"

In some cases, we represent "kids" directly. In other cases, we have to represent the adult on behalf of the "kid." Each law states who has the right to bring a case: a child or an adult on behalf of a child. When a client calls, we will tell him who needs to be the client: the "kid" or an adult. For example, we can represent a "kid" in a school expulsion case, emancipation case, and if the "kid" is 14 years old or older, a guardianship case. We represent the adult in a special education case.

"LOW-INCOME"

We do not charge for our services; however, all our clients must be low-income. Low income means the household's income is not more than 200% of the federal poverty level (see chart below). It also means that members of the household do not have assets available to pay for a private attorney.
